I got Chillhunter my Powertech up to level 22 and through Nar Shaddaa. Good story so far. I also tried PVP with her, and it worked pretty well considering.

After I leveled my Powertech a bit, getting to the end of Dromund Kaas and getting her ship. She indeed does feel a lot like leveling my first vanguard toon during combat.
I also did PVP on Chilldark, getting one win in three. It still felt like the PVP squads were out in force–or perhaps I am still readjusting to my level 50 start-over gearwise.
