Bye, Rag!

OotiniCast #1 is out on the Bind on Equip feed. And we are already on iTunes!  OotiniCast.com.

Paranoid had some members on short time this weekend. So, no heroic attempts. We easily took out all seven bosses (2-shot Ragnaros with all ten alive at the end) and also helped Drae with his legendary staff quest. Good stuff.

Next weekend is Thanksgiving and the (final?) beta test weekend for SWTOR. We plan on trying that out in groups instead of trying to raid WoW. Patch drops after that, so this could be our last Rag kill for a while.

Not a Villain, Apparently

Pretty simple day. Did a random with Hyp, Teo and Sulv, random tank, heroic Stonecore. Mildly irritating tank, bit of a Superman complex, but we got through it.

Did Firelands and Argent on Chillshot. One more day of Argent dailies and she is done. She will need some city rep to get the Crusader title, though.

Tried again making a villain in DCUO. Circe mentor this time; maybe the mentor was the problem. Nope. Still hated hurting the good guys and advancing the bad guys.

Simple Day

Simple day yesterday. Did a Halls of Origination with Hyp, Cypher and Sylv. Did Chillshot’s dailies. And played a bit of DCUO.

Turned in a Firelands 125, but not the one I thought. Ugh. So a few more days on that. And a slight boot upgrade. Ah well.

Another Day

Another Headless/Firelands day in WoW.

I’m still liking CO, the whole super hero thing is fun. But it feels a little hollow without Pants on Head around.

Champions Arise

Ran Headless Horseman and Firelands dailies with the guildies.

Also did a fair bit of Champions Online. Got my mind toon, Domino, to level 17. The leveling is quite slow. Still fun though. Just ran the five-part (feels like five comic issues) dungeon known as Aftershock. I’m not sure if a non-self-healing toon could solo it. Fairly tough, and the boss fights are brutal. Plus the enemies level up as you do, so you can’t outlevel it.  Very clever of them to have the dungeon scale both with party size and with level.

A hodge podge of info

Did Headless Horsemen on all appropriate toons yesterday without gaining anything of note.

Did Firelands dailies on Chillshot with Teo and Hyp. Warm has all useful gear from those.

Did most of an arena with Oni doing DK/disc priest. We were rusty and lost a lot, but it was still fun.

Watched the dance and costume contests from BlizzCon. That is always a treat.  Seemed like the level of costumes was a bit lower, though the winner was way cool. Check it out on YouTube.

Also looked at the Pandaran talent “trees” on WoWhead. Quite a change, and I’m not sure if it is all for the better.  I think what is missing from my picture is any additional abilities each spec gets that come from talent trees currently.

Working on Heroic Shannox

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on October 24, 2011 by callmechill

Paranoid took out all of Firelands again.

I got tanking gear-helm off of Baleroc. Pretty much only can get shoulders and shield now from drops, at least until heroics.

Speaking of, we did attempt heroic Shannox multiple times. Sadly the dog is immune to dazes, though not to slows (thanks, Blizzard, for making no damn sense at all), so I have no way to tank him on heroic. Paladins get a daze with a glyph, but have no slows. And of course the dog is immune to stuns.

Anyway we switched to Rubb tanking the dog. I switched to Ret. we got the boss well below half a couple of times, but eventually ran out of time. We switched to normal and overran the place.

I also played Champions Online, and enjoyed it a lot. If SWTOR wasn’t on the horizon I might really get into it. Check it out.

Paranoid victory lap; enjoying Champions Online

Paranoid took out all of Firelands this weekend.  We did Rag in two tries. Excellent.

After that we had quite a bit of time. We had done BH already, do we did Sarth three drakes, and then Narf. On heroic that is a semi-tricky fight still.

Also this weekend my son and I started playing Champions Online. We have both decided we like it better than City of Heroes, and will play this instead.

This is a good time to play CO; not only is it free to play, but they are giving a free character slot if you play any time the next week or so.

I have all my character slots filled. I have a spylike Soldier called Agent Frost; a Mind toon called Domino; and a Glacier called Chillout.

The Glacier type interests me in part because it is a ranged tank. This is new to me, and it is much like my anticipated main toon for SWTOR, the Trooper. Though the games are hardly identical I think it will be interesting to see how it works.p

Chewing on Rag

With the Firelands nerfs, Paranoid is now 6 of 7 and worked heavily on Ragnaros.

The nerfs made Alysrazor a laffer–we one-shot her. Wow.

The druid boss was a two-shot or three-shot. Easy peasy. Interesting though.

Rag was tough. Fun fight with lots going on. We are now solid on both the first phase and first transition. We are semi-decent at phase two–it was coming together pretty well. We did the see the second transition, but haven’t competed it yet.

SWTOR now has a release date: Tuesday December 20th. That means we will hopefully see a dropping of the NDA, but no word yet.

Scaling the Firelands

Success in raiding this weekend.

Day one we were short, so we got a couple of guildies together and took down Cho’gall and some other older content. Fun and easy.

Even better was day two. We stepped into the Firelands without even a single piece of trash down. Two hours later, we already had our normal two bosses down AND were taking down Lord Rhyolith for the first time!  Nice.

Some trash later, and we ended up getting about four attempts on Baleroth the Gatekeeper. I don’t think all of us were fresh on the fight video (I watched it, but weeks ago), and I think we’ll do well when we next go at it.

It was also a good gear weekend. Chillhand bought valor gloves for tanking, purchased a tanking beck off the AH following a sale of an engineering gun, and got a Scales of Life trink from a lucky trash drop. Plus a couple of ret offspec pieces from boss drops no one needed for main. Wow.

Scales of Life is interesting. It saves up overheals, which you can use once per minute to heal up to 17k. Very nice IF you are being overhealed at least once per 20 seconds–otherwise the ‘Light as a Feather’ buff drops and using the trinket will do nothing. So if you are being healed in most fights it is great; but not all.

For instance, in Beth’tilac I was up above. Beth hits hard and I was being healed by Teo on his disc priest. So naturally between her crazy hard hits, no other healer in range, and shield healing, I wasn’t being overhealed at all. So only the stam on the trunk was useful at that point-which, being 91 higher than the Symbiotic Worm, is still substantial.

When it was available, it was nice to know that I could do a solid self-heal every minute or so. I have added a Power Aura WITH a buff timer to use this trinket better. I am also tying to start boss fights with a self-cast overheal.

Interesting items like the Scales are among the things that, beyond my guild, keep the game fun.
